Research Grant

NeuroAIDS D43 Supplement (2020)

As a mentee under the NIH funded NeuroAIDS D43 Supplement Research and Training Grant, my mentored research project investigated common mental health disorders among people living with HIV (PLWH). Preliminary findings revealed a high prevalence of depression and a significant treatment gap within this population.

Clinical Research

RSTMH Grant - Stepped-Care Intervention

Pilot-testing a stepped-care, task-sharing intervention model integrated into existing HIV services for the treatment of depression among people living with HIV, informed by findings from previous research.

Current Research

NeuroAIDS D43 Supplement (2025)

Conducting a study on mental health disorders among the sexual and gender minority group living with and without HIV. This study aims to compare the mental health challenges experienced by older adults SGM living with and without HIV in Nigeria and how older SGM especially those living with HIV navigate stigma and other challenges in a restrictive environment like Nigeria.

READD-ADSP: Recruitment and Retention for Alzheimer's Disease Diversity

This study aims to understand Alzheimer's disease so that everyone can benefit from better treatments. It is the largest Dementia study in Africa which aims to build a resource that greatly expands the representation of currently underrepresented African ancestry (African American (AA) and Africans (AF)) and Hispanic/Latinx (HL) individuals in AD genetics studies. This project will help to identify multiple influential genetic mechanisms, expand our understanding of Alzheimer's Disease and to broaden the biological scope for developing potential therapies.

Origins of AD in African Ancestry Genetic Studies

The specific aim of this study is to deepen genetic, ancestral, and clinical characterisation of 100+ African American multiplex families, to educate African American individuals and families about brain donation to advance interest, decision-making and opportunities for participation, to extend genomic analyses of Alzheimer's Disease to cardiovascular phenotypes, to determine the genetic patterns of AD susceptibility in African ancestry individuals, and to evaluate the molecular and genomic function of known risk and/or protective variants.
